This is why I love my job.... for this moments... 1/29/2014 I was devastated to learn that my hairdresser, Genray himself, for the last 12.5 years passed away in June. Knowing him and his legacy, I decided to take a risk and go with a new stylist (to me) at the Genray Hair Salon. Tinneke, let all my fears melt away instantly with her warm positive personality and meticulous attention to detail. I have an important interview coming up and decided to chop the long and overdue hair cut for a short and professional look. Every step of the way she checked in with me to make sure the length was to my liking. We all know that when you get your hair cut by a pro, they style your hair like you are a celebrity, never knowing the ins and outs of reproducing this look yourself. This is where Tinneke stands out above the rest. While she was blow drying my hair, she talked me through the steps, so I could reproduce this fabulous styling myself. Needless to say, I have my 200+ students and colleagues in a higher education setting going absolutely bonkers over this new style. Even those on campus who don't know me are turning heads to look at my fabulous new do. Tinneke is the BEST! She really went above and beyond to make me look like a million bucks! Genray Hair Salon has been hard at work on remodeling.  We are approaching the final weeks of this remodel and we thought it would be fun to reflect and honor the man that started it all.  Love you Genray.

Rolling out the final plans...

My designers got their inspiration from my favorite girl MC!! 

This is the first draft of our final plans.... it's a mix of glam and diva, but simple, but not simple minded!>  

Remodel draft 2, still have 30 percent to change...

The room is divided into white and black, drawing you inside with gold embellishments.  My favorite  things so far are the handwriting in Genray Brass and the 8ft long brass chains.  The wall to the right will be in a glitter gold... glam , glam , glam... 

We were "Moving on up" to the deluxe Record Store

In 2006, a decade after his original salon purchase, Genray acquired the business space next to his salon, that had formally been DBA Brown Records.  It gave him and extra 3000 sq ft.  More space, more fun... and some problems.....
